“It Was Just a Pet.” – No. It Was Family.
Losing a beloved animal can be a profound loss. Yet grieving pet owners often hear dismissive words when their grief seems “too big”. It was just a pet! Usually these thoughts come from people who have never lived with animals – and that is understandable. They have never experienced the unconditional love of a dog, the quiet comfort of a cat, the close bond with a horse. Even small pets like hamsters and budgies develop their own recognisable character and communicate with us in their own way.
When a beloved animal dies, a gap remains. We miss the loving, sometimes funny, always unique behaviour of our companions. They are (just) animals – and yet so much more: comforters, companions, motivators, responsibility and often our favourite cuddle partner.
A farewell ceremony creates the space to hold on to memories, to grieve and to say goodbye – perhaps together with friends and neighbours who were part of your pet’s life. Ceremonies can especially help children find closure and a good farewell.
What I take care of: In an in-depth, caring conversation, I learn everything about your animal companion and then write a heartfelt, individual speech that makes their uniqueness visible. My own household includes a White Swiss Shepherd and a Siberian cat – both beloved family members. I know what animals mean to us.
A ceremony that needs no justification. Contact me, I’m here for you and your farewell.
